Circus Themed Cakes

So I was really excited to make this circus cake (red velvet w/cream cheese buttercream), I took the original design given to me by the client and made it into my own. I was happy with the outcome and posted the pic on my FB page.  Within minutes of posting the photo I received a request to make the exact same cake.  I try not to make the exact cake twice- especially in one week.
I needed to give this 2nd cake some individuality and it was a bit smaller (100 servings) I changed the tier shapes, added orange into the color scheme and used a different technique on the name to give it some individuality.

Overall I’m happy with how both cakes came out but I really think I like the 2nd one better.  I think has to do with the technique used on the name – it just pops more.  Just goes to show how simple adjustments can a difference.

Sneak Peek: Teal and Purple Sweet 16

Here is a sneak peak of a Sweet 16 cake that I am working on.
I love animal prints and to pair it with a teal/purple/black color scheme is really takes it to another level (i love cakes with black in the color scheme).
The invite is super chic and made designing the cake really fun!  I submitted four options and this is one they chose – I’m also adding a few elements which are not shown in the sketch.

There will be lots more to details and some behind the scenes action to come, so stay tuned!Photobucket

Stacked Baby Block Cakes

I delivered this Stacked Baby Blocks Cake to Tamara’s baby shower this past weekend.

The inspiration for the design came from a cake I saw  and loved on DeviantArt.   Each block has four panels and each panel has a different design.

The cake flavor is Cookies N Cream, covered in milk chocolate ganache and decorated with White Chocolate Fondant.   Water is cotton candy, Ducks are candy melts and bears are gumpaste.  Enjoy!

Happy Mothers Day!

Happy Mother’s Day to all!

I hope you all enjoyed this wonderful Sunday with your loved ones!

I made this cake for a mother’s day dinner.  I decided to keep it simple and go with a basic design of flowers and scroll work.

The flavor is banana cake with caramel buttercream and chocolate ganache, covered in White Chocolate fondant and decorated with Hawaiian Plumeria flowers.

Banana Split Cake

Banana Split cake for a 31st birthday.  It’s a 10” cake, carved to resemble a serving dish – the cake flavor is Neopolitan (alternate layers of chocolate and vanilla cakes w/strawberry buttercream) , covered in chocolate ganache.  White Chocolate Fondant was used to cover and decorate. Ice Cream Scoops are jumbo cupcakes covered in buttercream.  Banana and cherries are real.  Enjoy!

Real Parties: Pink and Orange Baby Shower

Cupcake Tower w/toppers

We delivered this cupcake tower to Century Buffet this weekend. The baby shower color scheme was hot pink and orange.  Cupcakes were decorated with either a custom designed topper or yellow sprinkles. The cupcakes were lemon with vanilla swiss meringue buttercream.  Also shown on the table are coordinating pink and orange candle favors.

3D Giant Slice of Cake

When I designed this cake, I had absolutely no idea how cute it would turn out!!!! This has to be my favorite cake that I have made all year. I love the overall design and the way the color scheme came together.  This cake was for my sisters 21st birthday, and she didn’t want a big cake since she was also having Pineapple Upside Down Cake at her dinner.  It’s a 10” cake – the flavors are chocolate cake with caramel buttercream, covered in chocolate ganache I used White Chocolate Fondant (my new fave) to cover and decorate.   Enjoy!

Sneak Peak: Slice of Cake

I just finished prepping the board for one of this weekends cakes. It s a giant slice of cake – flavors will be chocolate with caramel smbc.  I”m loving the orange, green and yellow color scheme.

Stay tuned for post of actual cake!

Donut Cake

I had soooo much fun making this cake. After researching donut cakes online I found a quick video on youtube by UrbanSweetsLA. I started off with a 10”x4” round vanilla cake, which was filled and coated with Vanilla SMBC. I then carved the cake to resemble a donut shape.

I then mixed white and chocolate fondant together to make the “donut” color (it’s a little darker than I would have liked) and covered the cake.

Pink fondant “frosting”

For presentation purposes I stopped by my local Dunkin Donuts to get a box ($.50), I think this added a better touch than just a decorated cakeboard.
The final cake!
